Let’s face it. Some days are better than others. Some days are better than most. And then there are those days, with apologies to Anselm, “the better of which cannot be conceived”. One such for me was last Thursday. It was sunny and warm. I taught a fun class. Our new puppy went a full day without an accident. And then, just before midnight, CNN reported Donald Trump had just tested positive for Covid 19. Some ironies are just too delicious to bear!

And then, to top it off, the next morning Kellyann Conway tested positive. Some people think God works in mysterious ways. This is nonsense. If what’s happening doesn’t make sense to us, we have no cause to attribute it to God. The proof that Trump’s comeuppance is divine justice is that it is so palpably divine in its justice! And the best part of it all was watching and listening to all the Dems and CNN anchors and commentators falling all over themselves wishing the asshole a speedy recovery, while knowing that off camera they’re high-fiving each other in uncontrollable delight.

But then … Oh yes, but then … Today, the other foot came down upon my having-just-taken-flight soul. The bastard’s going to recover. He’s going to get a sympathy bump, and he’s going to spin it and milk it for all it’s worth. How much is that? Enough to catch Biden and overtake him? Say it ain’t so, my brothers and sisters. Oh please, say it ain’t so.

  1. I get the impression that perhaps you don’t like this man.

  2. If Trump gets a sympathy bump, it’ll be with a little help from CNN. You scratch my back …

    • Apparently Trump took a serious hit in the polls in the wake of his disastrous debate performance, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll get a bump out of his getting Covid. He would have, I think, if he hadn’t continued to trivialize it. That doesn’t sit well with the millions of Americans who’ve lost a loved one to the virus. But it looks like he’s going to stick to his declare victory in the face of defeat strategy, and hope for the best. He’s probably right, in the sense that it’s too late to try to re-sell himself as having now seen the light. But Pamela is dead right that all the media has enjoyed a bump for the last four years from the very existence of Trump. Ad revenues are going to going to the floor under a Biden presidency. What will be especially interesting is seeing what will happen to Fox if Biden wins. Won’t the embarrassment be just too much to bear?!
