Apparently some celebrants are having a little fun by sending notices to Black addresses to report immediately to the nearest plantation. Tasteless but – c’mon, be honest – would the woke have been any less insensitive had they been taking the victory lap? What’s happening – and it’s been happening for a couple of years now – is that the Resistance is finally growing a pair of balls. As with any Hegelian dialectic, the ‘movement’, as Trump has been calling it, will swing alarmingly beyond a mere corrective. So the woke are right to be fearful.

And there are fortresses from which the New Resistance – the resistance to the Resistance – will be doubling down and fighting to the last trans standing. Peter Boghossian fully expects this from the woke academy, and he’s probably right. This is because the academy is the one place the woke hegemony would take decades to dissolve. Although, one might counter, it didn’t take decades to purge German universities of the Jewish hegemony. So perhaps Boghossian needn’t be so pessimistic.

Boghossian and I are convinced woke academics are damaging university education in America in precisely the way Jewish academics in Germany clearly were not. But whether for good or for evil, purging is invariably ugly. Much as he and I both left the academy for the same disgust, neither of us, I trust, would hold the Gestapo’s coat. So it is going to take decades to repair the academy. In fact for the very reason Peter suggests, things may get worse before they get better. But they will get better. I probably won’t live long enough to see it. But hopefully Peter will.
